Data-driven grading of acute graft-versus-host disease
Transplant outcomes and complications
The group led a multi-center effort to rebuild acute GVHD grading from organ-stage data. The 2023 Nature Communications paper is accompanied by a public calculator (gvhd.online) and source code.
What problem are we trying to solve?
Does a data-driven recombination of organ stages describe acute GVHD severity more faithfully than the conventional four-grade system?
Why it matters
Acute GVHD is the most frequent serious complication of allogeneic transplantation. Grading determines trial eligibility, treatment intensity and how outcomes are compared. A coarser system can hide clinically different patients.
Approach
Multi-center clinical cohorts; comparison of conventional and data-driven grading systems, including PCA-derived grades; public calculator and code.
